Rating: PG Category: Friendship/Romance (eventually) Archive: Please ask. Disclaimer: The characters aren't mine. If they were, I would be rich and have no need to be at work tomorrow morning. Spoilers: This begins during the beginning. The plan is to write a series of vignettes following the development of the relationship between the partners. Every episode will be included. Author's Note: During Martin Luther King, Jr. day this year I was reading an article and the following quote appeared: "Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend." The great Dr. King was on to something, though I highly doubt he thought it would be used for fanfiction. All the same, it has inspired this. Also, before you all get upset with me about finishing Progression, if you are reading it, I promise to finish. I just need a break after some things in my personal life. Summary: How did he go from hating her to relying on her. When did she decide he was more than an annoyance, but a friend. Feedback: Always appreciated. If you like it, my e-mail address is smartissexy21@yahoo.com. If you don't like it, I don't have an e-mail address. Acknowledgements: Thank you to anyone who has every sent me any feedback. You have no idea how encouraging that can be to a writer. Also, I know this idea has been done a thousand times, but this is my take as inspired by Dr. King. Thank you to my wonderful husband for all his love and support. THE FORCE LOVE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend." Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. CHAPTER ONE: The Pilot ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He tolerates her. Begrudgingly. He dislikes her from the moment her rosebud lips start lecturing on time and distance, and her eyebrow rises in skepticism. She is an annoyance, a novice with an agenda. She is his adversary. She detests him. Whole-heartedly. She hates his smug expression, his over-exaggerated arrogance, and the way her surname rolls of his tongue. He is crazy, a lunatic with a gun. He is her rival. ___________________________________________________________ Three days later and he decides that she might be useful. Her naivety does not absolve her from suspicion, but he thinks she may have the integrity to see past their agenda. He convinces himself that this growing feeling has nothing to do with mosquito bites and a power outage. As she returns from her first field assignment, she still thinks he's delusional. However, if nothing else, the motel fire has given some merit to his chaotic ramblings. Either way, she does not believe that anything other than an orangutan was in Ray Soam's grave. She ignores the memory of his hot breath on her back. CHAPTER TWO: Deep Throat ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He offers to buy her a drink. He knows she will decline. Her sanctimonious tone only encourages him more. When he returns from the bathroom, she sees panic and paranoia on his features. As far as she is concerned, this case is a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money. ____________________________________________________ He thinks she must be the most pragmatic person he has ever met. It annoys him that her pretty little head can dispense rationality with such precision. The fact that she even knows about such things as the Aurora Project is enough to keep her around, for now. He truly is a Sucker. She wishes he would have given her his twenty dollars. She would have bought something far more useful with it. Maybe a copy of "Explaining Away Paranormal Phenomena through Physics and Science." Not that he would have read it. His strict adherence to all things unexplainable is certainly keeping her on her toes. ________________________________________________________ He doesn't think she is keeping anything from him, but all the same, he feels the need to take a look without her. As she draws her gun on an official of the federal government, she decides that next time she is keeping the keys. _________________________________________________________ As he loops around the track, he can't help but admire her tenacity. Maybe not a spy, but certainly not a comrade. She does her best to convince her superiors that he is not a threat, merely a fly in their chardonnay. She is not so sure that is an accurate assessment. __________________________________________________ TO BE CONTINUED
